Decided to add a little lighting to make setup/troubleshooting a little easier. Just so happens the controller has some “other” features too!

Three or so years ago, I had to replace a fan on the Broadcast Pix Granite BOB. It was challenging to find a replacement fan since it uses 5V and Radio Shack is a thing of the past. Computer replacement fans use 12V.
Now the same fan needs replaced again! Luckily, the electronics landscape has changed with the popularity of Raspberry PIs and Arduinos. Finding a replacement was easy, local and in stock.

Time for some power distro maintenance. Just tightening lugs and inspecting wires. Keep those projectors humming.
After a lens was dropped, I performed the unthinkable. I disassembled the lens (NOT in a clean room) and was able to reseat the third element, fixing the problem completely!
In order to pull the element, a custom “tool” was needed to uncrossthread the retaining ring.
A little CAD was used to get the angle and placement correct for the screws to align with the retaining ring’s notches.
Even though the process wasn’t pretty, the result is a perfectly working lens, saving someone over $7000.
So, this week I needed to push out a tip that I stumbled upon today. Specifically this relates to the Panasonic AV-HS410.
In the past, I have had instances where a display device downstream of this switcher may start to blink. Items have varied from Christie projectors, downstage monitors via AJA converters or other displays with Monoprice converters. I was only ever able to narrow it down to certain slides from graphics machines (PC or Mac). I assumed color space in those slides was out of bounds, but assumed the converters or switcher would convert/limit it upon input.
Today, I think I have the solution. While setting up multiview from SDI5 to a Monoprice 1×4 DA to multiple MP SDI to HDMI converters, there was a whole lot of blinking going on. I reviewed the options for the SDI out menu and saw “SDI Limit”. It had been set to “Off”. Randomly, I tried “108” and everything settled down and worked perfectly. Now that I had a minute to look at the manual, I can suggest using “100” instead, but we are in show now.
Here’s the gist though. This setting applies to ALL SDI outputs no matter which one you apply the setting to in the menu. And the numbers refer to percentage of color space, limit to 100%, 104, 108 or off.
